[Review] Koh Lanta-Koh Rok by Ferry Advice

Lanta Island is located at the south of Krabi province. It has 339.9 square kilometers. This is the island which is famous for the foreign tourists from Scandinavia. The island is big and connected to the way for a dive trip, which leads to so many other islands.

This review of Lanta Island is about continuing traveling from PP Don Island. We have to go by a speed boat across from PP Don Island to Lanta Yai Island in around 30 minutes. If you want to travel to Lanta Island, you can come from Phuket province, or travel by plane to Krabi province. You can also come from Lipe Island, too. For our trip, Our choice is recommended to travel from Phuket province because it has more plane flights and vessel schedules which are better for travel. Now, let’s watch the review of travel to Lanta Yai Island.

The boat left from PP Don Island at 09.30 am. Then traveled by speed boat around 30 minutes to arrive at Lanta Yai Island. This day had so many tourists. The boat was full of people.

The boat went very fast due to the calm waves. Our boat stayed still. We sat there for just a minute, then we arrived at Lanta Yai Island.

Our speed boat docked at Sala Dan Pier, Lanta Yai Island. We had to walk across the boat to get to the Pier. Then the crew carried the bags to us.

We already crossed the boat. We waited for our bags then walked to Sala Dan Pier.

Many tourists waited for the boat because Sala Dan Pier is the main pier of Lanta Island. It is a connected spot for boats of people who travel from PP Don Island to Lipe Island, Muk Island, Ngai Island, or travel by boat across to Ao Nang. There were so many boats waiting for tourists at this pier.

When we walked to the pier, we had to pay the staff 10 Baht for the pier service. Thai people were free of charge. For this trip, we stayed at Cliff Lanta Suite. We called the resort, they had to wait for us at the pier before we boarded the boat. The resort staff told us about the characteristic or shirt’s color of the staff who waited for us and the name of the driver.

After we saw the driver, we got in the car. The resort we stayed at was around 8 km away from the pier. 

The car of the resort arrived at the pier. It is free of charge. If anyone wants to travel to Lanta Island. We recommended you to negotiate with the resort to wait for us at the pier. If not, you have to pay the price of the car to go to the resort of at least 300 Baht per person/round. 

We were in a car for 35 minutes. Actually, it is not far from the pier, but the driver drove at a normal pace to let us watch the view around until we arrived at the resort. The resort we chose is the new resort that opened 6 months when we traveled. 

We arrived at the resort. Let us completed the check-in.

Welcome drink with Butterfly Pea Juice, so delicious.

It was colorful. We did not get to drink Butterfly Pea Juice that much. It was really delicious. After we finished the welcome drink, we carried our bags to the room.

Our room had so many facilities. It was a single seaview room where we could watch the sea.

If you notice in the picture, the left side of the bed is a balcony that we can open for the cold breeze.

The toilet has clear mirrors to watch the sea. If you want your privacy, you can close the curtains.

The balcony outside the room, you can sit and chill for the cold breeze because it was the winter when we traveled. The weather was cold but not that much. Some day, the sky might be a bit overcast.

We had a sofa in a room for sitting and playing, lying and watching TV, or working there. After we put everything into the room, let us traveled around the island by a small motorcycle for 350 Baht/motorcycle. Unfortunately, the small ones were empty. We had to go for another one for 450 Baht/motorcycle/day instead. Luckily, it was worth it because we could easily ride it to the mountain.

When we got out from the resort not that far, we wanted to have lunch. If you want to travel to Lanta Yai, we recommend you to eat outside the resort due to the cheaper prices and more delicious foods.

This is our light lunch, Creamy Seafood Tom Yum. 

This is Fried Prawns With Tamarind Sauce. The prawns were big, fresh, and delicious.

We ate them with hot steamed rice. Oh! So tasty! We can confirm the deliciousness. It was not because we were hungry, but it was because the taste was for Thai people to eat, not for the foreigners.

Here is cold Coke for a person/glass. This meal was about 300++ which we thought was acceptable and not expensive. 

This is a small gas station. We filled the gas before riding to Mu Ko Lanta National Park. 

This is a road that leads to the national park. This road is better than the road on the island. The road is smooth, but we do not recommend driving fast because we are not used to the way.

We rode for a while, then we found the monkey that wanted to say hello and begged for our food. Unfortunately, we did not have any. We were so scared that we would get bitten. Then we rode the motorcycle and passed the monkey slowly.

We rode for a while again until we arrived at the park ranger checkpoint. The authority told us to pay the park entrance fee and motorcycle fee.

The park entrance fee is 40 Baht/person. Motorcycle fee is 20 Baht. The summary for us was 100 Baht.

We continued to ride until we entered Mu Ko Lanta National Park. This national park had so many monkeys that were kind to people. Maybe because they were used to the tourists.

A small monkey collected grasses and seeds for eating. In the national park, it had no phone signals at all.

That was the lighthouse in Mu Ko Lanta National Park. The wave sounds could be heard periodically. The cold breeze blew. We could sit and listen to the wave sounds until we might fall asleep. After we sat and watched the view for a while, we continued to travel to the old city walking street.

When we got out from the national park, there would be restaurants on the mountainside. The atmosphere was very good, but we did not have a chance to eat there, so we took a picture for you.

This restaurant has a seaview which has a good atmosphere. The wind was cold. It was time to continue riding the motorcycle to the old city. Follow us!

We rode about 10+ km. Then we arrived at the old city which is the market that has restaurants and souvenir stores both left and right. The style is retro like ancient houses or ancient stores.

Before the entrance to the old city, it has the Statue of The Admiral, His Royal Highness, Prince Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak or Sadet Tia which is respected and believed by Thai people. Everytime we do a review of traveling to each island that has the Statue of Sadet Tia, we have to pay our homage every time so that he will protect us while we are traveling at the sea. We also ask the power from the sacreds to bless every tourist who is traveling with our company throughout the travel trip.

After that, we walked along through the old city. It had a lot of restaurants both left and right.

We found a restaurant that has a good atmosphere for us, so let us get in there because we were hungry again!!!!!!!!!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was very good. The back of the restaurant had a zone for eating at the seaside, but we chose the inner zone because the outside zone had so many people.

I am an easy eater, a light eater, but also a continuous eater. This is fried spring rolls. Let us began with the light one.

This is Pad Thai with Egg. If you do not know what to eat, just think about Pad Thai because it is easy to eat and delicious. After we finished a light dinner, we rode back and stopped by Saladan Walking Street.

This is the Lanta Kilometer Marker. I cannot see the marker because you were standing there.

We would like to bring you to the delicious and cheap price restaurant zone. It is not necessary to eat expensive food when traveling to the island. You can eat whatever you want. This is a cultural walking street. Many foreign tourists were walking here. Let us see good things here.

We ordered 3 grilled chickens for 40 Baht. Sometimes, we ate seafood everyday and got bored, so we ordered the tasty normal ones without worrying about the beauty. This review is for you.

It also had rice with curry. The side had tables for eating. You had to service yourself.

The donut had 5 Baht and 10 Baht. This was the same as a coastal plain price. Adults can eat, children can also eat as well.

At first, we wanted to walk away, but the seller told us to stop by, so we got a charcoal crepe that put everything for 35 Baht.

The crepe looked so tasty. We walked along the way for a while and we used the money below 150 Baht. Where could we find a price like this? If you have a chance to go to Lanta, please come here as a review said.

The next morning after we finished breakfast, we would like to go on a dive trip to Rok Island. The car arrived at the resort below 07.40 am. We had to prepare the equipment for a dive trip already.

The car took us to check-in everyone’s names who got in a boat because the boat has insurance. Now we will review the atmosphere of Rok Island.

After we finished check-in with the staff, they would take us to the boat to the old town pier. We had to walk around 20 minutes. The white boat here took us to Rok Island, a one day trip today.

I was the first one who got in a boat. The boat was big. This kind of boat is the speed boat, but I thought that the boat characteristic seemed odd. It was wide and big.

 The headed boat was wide. It was comfortable enough to sit and watch the view.

The boat also had a restroom. It was clean and wide.

After every tourist got off the boat, the guide briefed us about today’s trip. We had to introduce ourselves, so the staff would take care of us. The guide was so cute and friendly. He liked to talk and took pictures for us throughout the trip.

We sat from the old town pier, Lanta Yai Island, to the sea around 1.30 hours until the boat docked at Rok Island. It had both Rok Nai Island and Rok Nok Island which were located at opposite spots. For the tourist who did not want to dive, in the morning, they could travel at Ko Rok National Park instead. The boat would be back for the tourists at noon who finished the dive and had lunch here.

Rok Island, Krabi province, is famous for “The Queen of Andaman”. This island is located in Krabi sea waters that connect to Trang Sea. The characteristic is divided into 2 small opposite islands. This island has a fine white sand beach.

The boat took us to the first dive spot of the day at Rok Nok Island. This spot was 40 minutes long. The guide told us that the boat would honk the signal for us to get ready to continue diving at other spots. Do not have too much fun with the dive that is enough to forget to hear the honk from the boat.

The sea water here had an emerald green color, while the corals had almost brown color for all.

When we dove, we saw an octopus. However, the octopus hid in the rock. That’s why we only saw the head.

The water was clear and warm. We went to the sea in winter, but the weather was not that cold.

The corals had brown and green alternately.

After we dove in the first spot at Rok Nai Island, the boat took us to see the beauty of the waterfall. It was flowing to the sea. This waterfall is located on Rok Nai Island. The guide told us that in the rainy season, the waterfall would have a strong flow until it flowed out from the side cliff.

The last spot for diving before having lunch, Man Sai Bay. The depth of this spot is approximately 15 meters. It is not ordinary. After we finished diving in this spot, we had lunch. The boat would take us from Rok Nai Island to have lunch at the national park.

The boat docked at the bridge for us to have lunch at the national park. The staff already prepared the food for us. 

This was our diving group. We stayed in a roll and scooped lunch to eat.

 The food was a buffet, no limited food. It also had snacks and cold sodas to choose for drinking.

This was the atmosphere around the national park. It has chairs in many spots to rest in the national park. It also has the restrooms and stores for tourist services.

After we finished our food, we went walking around the beach. The sand was white and fine. The sea water has a turquoise color. Oh, this place was such a heaven on our planet!

You can play in the water at the beach in front of the national park, because the water here was not deep and had fine white sand without the rocks.

After we walked around the beach, the boat took us to continue diving. The last spot of the day, we took you to dive and watched the clown fish.

This spot had so many nemo fish. They lived in families. 

The corals on the island were the most brown of all. They had so many, and the water was very deep. It is approximately 10+ meters deep.

Wow! Look at that! We could see the turtles from afar, but we could not dive 15 meters deep to take a picture, so we had to thank the guide for his capability to take a beautiful picture for us. Let us said goodbye to the last picture from Rok Island today. In the evening, 04.00 pm, we had to go back to the resort for a rest.

The boat took us to the old town pier and a minibus continued to take us to the resort. Thank you for a good trip today.

After we finished taking a bath, we rode the motorcycle to eat dinner. We got attracted to this restaurant because we were hungry. This is Bobby Bigboy restaurant. The atmosphere outside had a chic physical appearance.

It also had a cool car outside the restaurant. The physical appearance made us want to have dinner in the evening.

Crispy Deep Fried Garlic Pork Ribs were very delicious, although they might be a bit sticky. The taste was kinda good.

This is Tom Kha Gai. We were bored of the seafood, so we wanted to eat other kinds of food.

This is Prawn Pad Thai. I ordered this for him. He said that he wanted to see. So let me ordered this food.

The last item on the menu here was the sweet one. I felt so grateful for this menu because the owner gave it to us for free. Thai people's kindness is not defeated by any nation in the world. Even though I said that the owner should charge the price of this menu, the owner still confirmed that he would not charge it and gave us more for a 15% discount. If you travel to Lanta Yai Island, you should stop by this restaurant.

Let me took a picture of him before leaving. I did not know who was more chubby, he or the doll? Hahahaha! After took the picture, we went back to the resort because tomorrow we had to go back home.

The time went by so fast. The next morning, we walked around at the beach behind the resort. This is the view of the resort on the beach side.

The sand beach behind the resort had so many rocks. The rocks were black and they were all over the beach. In the morning, there would be fishermans catching fish almost everyday. It’s time to prepare ourselves and our bags for going to the pier. I pre-booked the boat, so the boat company prepared the bus to the resort for free to take us at the Sala Dan Pier. We had to stand by waiting for the car at least 1 hour before the boat departed.

The boat took us to the Sala Dan Pier. We had to check-in before the boat departed for at least 30 minutes.

The check-in spot was not that hard to find. We traveled back from Lanta to Phuket province by the Satun Pakbara Speedboat Club. The lobby of the boat is located on the left. You can check-in by walk-in or use the voucher via the smartphone. 

After we finished check-in, we waited for the boat. The seats were wide. We could order the food to eat while waiting for the boat.

After we checked-in already, the staff gave us stickers to put on our shirts and our bags. When the boat was going to arrive, the staff told us to get in the boat.

Let us went back to Phuket province. The speed boat took 1 hour and 30 minutes back to the Ratchada Pier. 

Just a moment, we went back to the Ratchada Pier. The return, the boat docked by and took people from PP Don Island before going to the Ratchada Pier around 10 minutes.

This was the speed boat we sat on today. After we got our bags, we walked to the van waiting spot to take us to the Phuket Airport. We made an appointment with the driver to arrive here before the boat arrived at the Ratchada Pier.

The van arrived like in the appointment. We went from the Ratchada Pier to the Phuket International Airport in around 40 minutes. The driver asked us if we wanted to stop by and buy something before we went to the airport, because the airport would only have the expensive things. Then we said, “No problem, we are not that hungry”. That’s why the car went straight to the airport.

We arrived at the Phuket Airport. 

This was the end of the trip with feeling tired yet fun at the same time. We got valuable experiences with the Andaman Sea of Thailand.
