Traveling from Chumphon province, Thung Makham Noi Pier to Koh Tao, the boat will drop off passengers at Mae Haad Pier, Koh Tao, which is the main and only pier for passenger transfers. Things to know when visiting Koh Tao

  1. Thailand uses the Baht as its sole currency. On Koh Tao, many shops accept credit cards, and there are international currency exchange services and ATMs available.   

  2. Koh Tao has one public hospital. For urgent medical treatment, you can contact the hospital. For minor illnesses, there are numerous clinics and pharmacies on the island.   

  3. The original inhabitants of Koh Tao are from southern Thailand. However, currently, most hotels are owned by entrepreneurs from outside the area. Additionally, there are Burmese workers on the island. You can communicate in English with almost everyone, as around 80% of the people on the island understand English well.   

  4. Koh Tao is a small island without an airport. There is only a helipad for emergency medical evacuations.   

  5. There are convenience stores open 24 hours a day on the island.

  6. The most popular mode of transportation on the island is renting a motorbike to explore. 1 The rental rate is approximately 350 baht per day. The rental company may ask for your ID card (for Thai citizens) or passport (for foreigners) as a deposit, which will be returned when you return the motorbike. 2 This is a long-standing practice to prevent motorbike theft or illegal removal from the island.   

  7. Hotels and resorts on Koh Tao currently offer a wide range of amenities, including 24/7 electricity and water.

  8. Precautions for traveling on Koh Tao: Koh Tao is an island with steep terrain and large rocks. The roads or paths leading to resorts are quite steep. Many tourists have experienced road accidents. It is recommended not to ride a motorbike at night to avoid poor visibility.

  9. Food on Koh Tao: When you arrive on Koh Tao, you will undoubtedly encounter mostly foreign tourists, to the point where you might forget that this is Thailand. The number of Thai tourists visiting Koh Tao is significantly lower than that of foreigners. Of course, you won't have any problems with food, as most dishes are not as spicy as Thai people typically eat. There is a wide variety of menus to choose from, but I would still encourage you to try Thai food, it's truly delicious.

  10. Diving activities on Koh Tao: If you're visiting Koh Tao, you must go on a diving trip. Of course, we should travel in an eco-friendly way and not harm natural resources.
